Voodoo Ranger IPA

Live Rangerously

Highlights

Outspent by larger competitors, Voodoo Ranger needed to break through differently. SuperBloom turned a fake beer theme park into a public spectacle, generating outrage, participation, and earned media that made the internet do the advertising.

Over multiple weeks in Napa Valley, we made the fictional Voodoo Ranger IPA Action Park feel real: Concept art, local media, radio, community meetings, and promotional materials elicited conversation and frustration in equal measure.

Street teams, supporters, protesters, and faux news crews infiltrated farmers markets and community forums, while the team explored real sites and permitting pathways, turning an invented development proposal into a story the press and public actively debated.

Developed and produced by showrunner and Creative Collective member Evan Weinstein (The Amazing Race, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm).

Challenge

THE BIGGEST BEER BRANDS BOUGHT ATTENTION. VOODOO HAD TO STEAL IT.

The craft beer category was drowning in sameness - loud, expensive, and forgettable. With a smaller budget and distribution, Voodoo Ranger refused to play the traditional media game. Instead of buying attention, we chose to provoke it and make Voodoo impossible to ignore.

Unexpected Insight

ACTIVATING THE INTERNET'S LOVE LANGUAGE.

Rather than sharing ads, people engage with cultural moments that blur the lines between parody and reality. By behaving like culture rather than marketing, the campaign transformed spectators into active participants, investigators, critics, and co-conspirators.

Once the park felt ‘real’, we created a fake research company and held a community meeting, where residents could ask any questions.

They weren’t thrilled with our idea. So, we doubled-down, asking for help and support online. We even went so far as creating a ‘Not in Napa’ activist group - who besieged Napa Valley with protests against the park.

Big Idea

WE TURNED A PRESS RELEASE INTO A PUBLIC SPECTACLE.

We executed a brilliantly irresponsible stunt: announcing a fake Voodoo Ranger beer theme park in Napa Valley. Complete with permit filings, town meetings, protestors, and merchandise, this "XTREME BREW FLUME" prank spiraled into a public spectacle. By provoking a genuine civic debate instead of just launching a campaign, we let the internet do the rest.

With no single hero asset carrying the campaign, the case-study film brought its many media moments together into one cohesive narrative, revealing how the stunt unfolded and giving press an anchor for telling the complete story after the campaign.
